Melrose

Like many cities in its area of greater Boston, Melrose was once part of Charlestown and later part of Malden, before it broke off and formed its own city. Rather than retaining its original name, North Malden, the city chose Melrose after the city of the same name in Scotland. With an estimated population of 27,093, Melrose is well-placed for commuters, who can take Interstate 93 or U.S. 1 into Boston. Its residents tend to be slightly better off than their neighbors to the south, which may be why a character referred to it as “fancy pants Melrose” in the 2007 film Gone Baby Gone. Nonetheless, Melrose shares the Malden District Court with some of those neighbors, including Malden, Everett and Wakefield.

The Law Office of Stephen Neyman routinely represents people who are accused of a crime in Melrose. The city is convenient to our downtown office, and the district court is a large and busy place that hears matters from traffic tickets and drunk driving to assault and battery, all types of drug crimes, domestic violence and sex-related charges. Our office handles defense of all of these crimes and more. We also help clients with matters related to past charges, such as bail hearings, probation violations and bench warrants. Attorney Stephen Neyman has been involved in criminal law for more than 20 years and understands Massachusetts law on all of these charges, as well as the most common outcomes to cases. Our office helps clients accused of crimes get the best possible outcomes -- which aren’t always the most likely.

Being accused of a crime can throw your life into turmoil. A criminal charge carries the threat of prison time, as well as possible consequences for your job, your loved ones and your financial security. All of this can be very stressful, especially if you’ve never interacted with the criminal justice system before and have no idea what to do. If this sounds all too familiar, you should call the Law Offices of Stephen Neyman for a free phone consultation. Our attorneys can help you understand the charges against you and the penalties you face. If you decide to hire us, we will start defending your case right away, because time is of the essence. In addition to building a strong defense for the courtroom, we can negotiate long before trial with prosecutors for fairer, lighter charges or alternative penalties whenever appropriate.

If you’d like to know more, we urge you to call 617-263-6800 or send us a message online to set up a free phone consultation. You can also visit our downtown Boston office at 50 Congress Street. To get there from Melrose, you can take Interstate 93 south into downtown or take U.S. 1 south and merge with Interstate 93. From the interstate, take exit 24A/Government Center, and turn left at John F. Fitzgerald Surface Road. Take the first right onto State Street, then left onto Congress Street. Using MBTA, you can take the Haverhill Line to North Station or a bus to Oak Grove Station, then pick up the Orange Line. That train will take you to the State Street Station, which is a short walk from our office.
