Walpole is a Boston commuter suburb to the south of the city in Norfolk County. It was named for Sir Robert Walpole, who is widely regarded as the de facto first Prime Minister of Britain and who was a contemporary of the town’s independence from Dedham. Relations with Britain soured during the Revolutionary War, however, and Walpole sent 65 men to defend Providence from a fleet of British ships. These days, Walpole is a middle-class suburb roughly 18 miles from Boston and 23 miles from Providence, along Interstate 95. It’s also the location of a state prison, although residents successfully lobbied for the prison to be named MCI Cedar Junction instead of using the town’s name. Walpole residents use the Dedham District Court when they are charged with misdemeanor or less serious felony crimes such as possession of child pornography. Rape, sexual assault and other serious crimes are heard at the Dedham Superior Court.
Don’t Wait to Call a Lawyer About Sex ChargesIt’s always a good idea to call an attorney right away if you’re accused of a crime. But when you’re facing sex crime charges, it’s vital. Few other crimes are punished as harshly in our society as sex charges, because serious sex charges carry many non-criminal penalties as well as high fines and long sentences of prison. After release, people accused of many violent or child-related sex crimes — including rape charges — can be required to register as sex offenders in Massachusetts, with additional penalties for failure to register. Defendants might find themselves fired or suspended from work when word of the charges gets out, even if the allegations are unproven and ultimately dismissed. They can also be excoriated in the media if the case becomes high-profile. And that can lead to judgment by neighbors, colleagues and others defendants thought of as friends.
When you’re facing all of these penalties, you should make it a priority to call the Law Offices of Stephen Neyman for help. We have more than 20 years of experience defending people accused of sex crimes, including some of the most serious and reviled sex crimes. Over the years, we’ve won acquittals, lenient plea bargains and other favorable outcomes for many people facing charges in Massachusetts. When we are able to represent clients from the start, we can often minimize or eliminate some of the worst aspects of sex charges. For example, by representing you through your initial police interview, we can protect your civil rights from officers more interested in winning a confession. We can also help you avoid an upsetting public arrest if you prefer to turn yourself in without fanfare. An early start gives us the chance to negotiate with prosecutors as soon as we have a strong enough case, which can help you avoid a trial on charges that won’t stand. And when we are with you from the beginning, we can start building a strong defense right away.
